Chef Matthew Tobias

My experience and passion for food, cooking, and food culture is rooted in the time spent in the kitchen with my mother and grandmothers as a young child. Coming from a mixed Lebanese/Italian/German background, variety was abound, and each opportunity (AKA meal) presented a moment where I was transported to a different place, a different time, while absorbing every last detail on how to prepare a dish - from the proper utensils to stir, to the "secret ingredients" that take a dish from good to great, and the cultural nuances of different type of cuisines that at first may seem disparate, but in fact have more in common with each other when combined and utilized in creative ways. Although I lack formal culinary training, most if not all of my free time is dedicated cooking and sharing new food experiences with my friends, family, and loved ones, in addition to creating content for my emerging social cooking platform. I consider myself to be an adept home chef who never shies away from an untested dish or new cuisine, and who is passionate about elevating the simple pleasures of comfort food in a sophisticated yet approachable way. Each day, my culinary accumen grows through trial and error, triumphs and failures, all with the intention of making the next dish I prepare the best I've ever made (for now).
