I originally wanted to be a journalist, but a scheduling mix-up at my high school in Miami landed me in a cooking class instead of the journalism class I’d signed up for. That twist of fate turned out to be life-changing. A visit from the culinary department of Johnson & Wales University to our school sparked something in me, and from that moment on, I’ve been determined to become a chef—a passion I’ve pursued for over 15 years now.
